Level 3 Associate (AICB)
ICB Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounting
The Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounting covers the preparation of ledger balances, control accounts and reconciliations, adjustments and preparation of final accounts for non incorporated businesses or organisations in both a manual and computerised system.
The qualification is made up of three home based exams, papers BA4, BA5 and BA6 with BA7 being an external examination taken at a Pearson Vue testing centre. Successful achievement at the full qualification will lead to the opportunity to upgrade to (Associate Member) AICB of the ICB and the award of the designatory letters AICB to be used after your name.
This can be purchased as individual courses, a combined package including Level 2 B1, B2,and B3 plus Level 3 BA4, BA5, BA6 and BA7 whereby you can make big savings or if you prefer to take things one step at a time as an upgrade package from Level 2. Occupation Role: Self Employed Bookkeeper/Employed Bookkeeper
On completion of this qualification candidates will be able to carry out the role of an employed or self-employed bookkeeper, be able to reconcile bank statements with the ledgers, produce a VAT return, control the sales and purchases ledgers, post year-end adjustments and produce the final accounts for a sole trader, partnership and not-for-profit organisation in both a manual and a computerised system.
Self Employed Bookkeeper:
Sage 50 Professional is widely used by Accountants and potential clients. Many self employed bookkeepers sub contract to accountants and also work at their clients premises so understanding how to use this software in imperative. More so than owning your own software as firstly it is expensive, and as the majority of small businesses have fairly easy straightforward transactions it is not worth going to the expense. Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications are more commonly used. The majority of jobs advertised require the applicant to be either experienced or have evidence of training in Sage 50 Accounts Professional. This is renowned as the industry standard and used comprehensively by employers, bookkeepers and accountants. Our AICB Professional package is exclusive to Training Link and cannot be found elsewhere. On completion of this level of study a candidate will be able to Understand the following areas of underpinning knowledge:
- The importance of adhering to a set of ethical principles
- How and when to take action to cope with unethical behaviour
- The concepts of business entity, going concern, historical cost, consistency, prudence and accruals
- The legal requirements for forming a partnership
- Different ways of processing VAT for EU and non-EU transactions
- Alternative VAT systems eg VAT margin scheme
- Prepare a bank reconciliation statement
- Understand the purpose and use of control accounts as a checking mechanism
- Account for VAT and prepare a VAT return
- Prepare a ledger account to record the disposal of a fixed asset and to calculate the profit or loss on disposal
- Calculate adjustments to the accounts including:
- Opening and closing stock
- Depreciation of fixed assets
- Accruals and pre-payments
- Provision for doubtful debts
Prepare the final accounts for a non-incorporated business including processing of
adjustments for opening and closing stock, depreciation, accruals, prepayments, provision for doubtful debts in the following areas:
- Sole trader
- Not-for-Profit Organisation
Units covering Sole Traders BA4, Partnerships BA5 and Not for Profit Organisations BA6 can be taken individually. The final external examination BA7 taken at a Pearson Vue Testing centre covers all topics learned throughout the Level 3 syllabus.
